MAY 1, 2020 - MIDLAND, TX - We are excited to share important news regarding the evolution of our company. S&B Drilling is now S&B Helical. The name change allows us to present ourselves as the premier helical pier installation company that services more than the oil and gas industry, but many other energy industries in both the private and public sectors.
S&B Drilling started business in Williston, North Dakota, in January 2015 with Clayton Carmack, Chris Carmack, and John Lisle. In those early days, the primary focus was on oil and gas foundations in specific basins. In the last five years, the company has grown to service clients in other areas of the energy sector, such as the electrical industry's transmission and distribution infrastructure. There are many opportunities on the horizon as S&B Helical continues to grow. "I'm excited to rebrand ourselves because we are not an oil and gas company, we’re a helical pier company," President, Clayton Carmack said.
Our commitment to our clients, partners, and vendors remain our highest priority. This rebranding will not affect or delay any current or future projects. Further, our rebranding and name change will not impact our shipping and billing addresses, tax identification number, or any invoicing information. Be sure to check out our website at www.sbhelical.com!
S&B is Now Federally Recognized as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business
APRIL 27, 2020 - MIDLAND, TX - S&B is excited to announce that we are certified as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB). In order to be eligible for this certification, a company must satisfy certain criteria. Most importantly, a company must be 51% owned and controlled by service-disabled veterans. We are proud that Clayton Carmack, President and Co-Founder, and John Lisle, Vice President of Sales and Co-Founder, have served our country honorably in the United States Army. Both served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the years 2003 to 2005.
"The main benefit of this certification is the availability of certain funds that are specifically designed for minority-owned businesses, and we're given important preferences in government contracting, " Clayton Carmack said. "This recognition will allow us to target outside the oil and gas industry. We feel that this is an advantage, not just as a minority-owned business, but to get more exposure to other industries that need helical piers."
Approximately one-fifth of the helical pier market in the United States is attributed to public sector jobs. "This gives us a greater competitive edge with regard to that portion of the total available market," John Lisle said. "Qualifying for this took years of commitment from both Clayton and I. This includes years of separation from our families while conducting combat operations overseas. We're proud of the accomplishments we've achieved over the last five years at S&B with the support of our entire team."
Despite the challenges in the world today, S&B is moving forward with exciting new opportunities. As always, we are thankful for those who serve in our country's military!
S&B Sponsors Art Pieces for New Williston Basin International Airport
SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 - WILLISTON, ND - S&B had the great pleasure of sponsoring pieces of art for the brand new Williston Basin International Airport, also know as XWA. This contest consisted of members of the Williston community and surrounding areas, creating art that represented the many unique and beautiful sides of North Dakota. Many of the artists contributed scenes of nature such as moose, deer, bison, and even of the picturesque Badlands. Other pieces focused on the industries responsible for our economic strength, such as agriculture and oil and gas. While it was a tough decision, the judging panel came up with two winners, Courtney Chaney and Tiffany LeBaron! Their art will be displayed inside the airport for three years for many travelers to enjoy! S&B wants to thank everyone who worked so hard on their pieces and entered the contest. Outside of this contest, there are many other companies, donors, and sponsors contributing art to the new airport. Further, we want to send a special thank you to our judging panel: Falon Justice- Owner of Bride to Be, Onesti Kieger – local art expert, Anthony Dudas - Airport Director for the Williston Basin International Airport, John Lisle – Co-owner S&B and Kelsey Lisle – Marketing Director S&B.
S&B Installs Foundation for the Freedom Monument
MAY 15, 2019 - WILLISTON, ND - S&B Drilling, a veteran-owned company, was excited to donate and install the foundation of helical piers for the Freedom Monument at Riverview Cemetery in Williston, North Dakota this month. Currently, this cemetery has several monuments dedicated to military service members up until the Vietnam War. This new addition will recognize veterans and conflicts around the globe since that time with an interactive kiosk as well as a wall with a world map. Further, the kiosk will allow new data to be plugged in to record any future U.S. service members and conflicts worldwide. Uploaded information will include details about conflicts involving American military personnel as well as nearby monuments in the area. This project was put together by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee. S&B Drilling is happy to be a part of such a historical moment in Williston. The unveiling of this new monument is slated for Fall 2019.
JANUARY 15, 2019 - WILLISTON, ND - Vice President John Lisle was elected to the board of directors for the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce for a two-year term this past week. The Chamber is driven to make Williston a welcome place for all types of businesses and families. Lisle, along with a few other S&B members, has participated with the Military Affairs Committee on planning and building the Veteran's Memorial. Upon being asked about his elected position, Lisle said, "It's exciting, and I am looking forward the opportunity to learn and gain experience from members of our community. Williston is a great place to live, and I want to be a part of it."
Per their website, the Chamber is dedicated to turning the area's extraordinary economic growth into a place where people want to live and thrive, not just work. From the Desk of President, Clayton Carmack
JANUARY 1, 2019 - MIDLAND, T.X. - S&B Drilling set out goals for 2018, and we are here to say that we accomplished more than we set out to do.
2018 was a challenge for us because we decided to set up a new shop in Midland, and there were a lot of growing pains in this transition. Communication across the country was definitely one of our biggest challenges, but through a couple of different methods, we were able to communicate effectively.
We have brought on a couple of key team members throughout the year, and they were a big reason why we were able to grow and expand. At times, each employee was spread out pretty thinly, but each member was able to take on more responsibilities, and as a team, we were able to get through the year and do it safely and effectively.
We are happy to announce that we successfully grew to double in size in just one year. S&B bought double the equipment, hired more team members, and added some big companies to our clientele list. One of the things that amazed me was we did work across six different states!
I would like to thank each team member for being a part of something really special here. We have grown a company that is here to stay for a long time. We will continue to hire the best people, buy the latest equipment, and use the best material to do our jobs.
We will continue to set the bar high with our company, and we will do that by continuing to be trustworthy, honest, and above all else, we want to show everyone we care.
Regards, Clayton Carmack
Festival of Trees - A Williston Tradition
DECEMBER 1, 2018 - WILLISTON, ND - S&B Drilling partnered up with Trailer and Truck of Williston to participate in this year's Festival of Trees. While the event is only in its fifth year, it is an event that the community looks forward to every year. As a matter of fact, all tickets were sold out in 16 minutes! How it works: Companies sponsor a tree or wreath. It is usually decorated by a theme and surrounded by many gifts (there is ALWAYS a Louis Vuitton Tree!) People then bid on those trees/wreaths, and all monies raised go to a charity/cause picked by the Williston Community Builders. This year it was donated to the construction costs of the new Veteran's Memorial. It is hopeful that the construction of the new memorial will start this summer. S&B Drilling is excited to be a part of this project and will be donating the foundation to the memorial.
It is a great event, and we look forward to it every year. We are so proud to be a part of a community that is always looking to give back. Have a great holiday season!
Oil Growth: Is the Boom Back?
AUGUST 22, 2018 - WILLISTON, N.D. - Vice President John Lisle, along with other Williston business leaders, weighs in on the growth of business in the Bakken.
S&B Launches New Division
AUGUST 15, 2018 – WILLISTON, N.D. - S&B Drilling is excited to announce it has opened a Driven Pile Division. While helical piers are still a regular quality service offered, driven piles open the door for another needed service for deep soil foundation solutions across the nation. President Clayton Carmack said, "This concept has been under development for a year and a half, and it is exciting to get this concept off the paper and in the field."
Driven piles are installed by using an impact or vibration hammer to a designated depth or resistance. Using these piles offer greater lateral loading capabilities than a helical pier, which makes it a good solution for heavy, dynamic loads in the oil and gas industry. "We recognized a need and reinvested countless hours and capital to research and development for this particular venture," said John Lisle, Vice President. "Our method is not a new concept, but a new application. We've been able to improve efficiency by making dramatic changes to existing designs and methods."
Along with S&B's other foundation work, it is a cost-effective foundation solution. S&B uses high-quality, up-to-date products, and experienced workers to install helical piers, driven piles, and repair foundations. Specializing in the energy, construction, upstream, midstream, downstream, and commercial industries with professional engineering and safe, cost-effective services.
